New sports and music festival on Texel
Texel, 10 December 2018 – Two-time Olympic champion windsurfing Dorian van Rijsselberghe starts his own water sports and music festival on Texel, called WAVES. The festival takes place from 19 to 23 June 2019 on the iconic beach location of Paal 17 and is during and in collaboration with Round Texel.
Apart from Round Texel, the sports program of this five-day festival consists of a Grand Prix Foil Windsurfing, freestyle kiting and a kite downwinder. In the future Olympic foil discipline, the water will be flown over with a wind surf board instead of it being in the water. In addition, there are plenty of other water and beach activities throughout the festival, from surf- and kite clinics to beach yoga.
Wulf, La Pegatina, RONDÉ and Jeangu Macrooy first names on WAVES
Besides sports, WAVES has a full music line-up. This allows visitors to enjoy live performances on the beach after participating in sports or simply watching them. Wulf, RONDÉ, Jeangu Macrooy and the Spanish La Pegatina, are the first four names to be performing at WAVES festival. From pop to indie to singer-songwriter artists: various streams of music come together so everyone can feel at home or get their freak on.
Van Rijsselberghe is, besides being the initiator, also the festival director. “We have developed a new event in which we combine top-class sport with recreational sports, music and activities for real outdoor people. With WAVES we have the scoop of a foil event on this scale and we really offer a complete concept that makes me proud. And all of this combined with the iconic location of Paal 17 on Texel and the magic of ‘the Round’ promises a true spectacle,” says the 30-year-old windsurfer.
